Miss Alice Reflected

Another day in Waddesdon Manor as a House Host Volunteer.  Tickets again sold out although the morning started slowly - I suspect some people did not show up.  There were 'surges' (the in-word at present) from time to time and a steady stream in the afternoon; many of these visitors were very interested and wanted more than the quick glance like the majority.  So volunteers in all rooms were able to impart their little stories and words of wisdom - visitors do appreciate these saying it brings rooms and artefacts to life; they also commented on how our genuine love for Waddesdon shines through.

This image is of a Kate Malone pot and only a few years old from a special exhibition.  At the time I was fortunate to be invited to Kate's studio and record the making of this and other pots, so able to tell the visitors how it was made.  Called Miss Alice, it represents the sister of Baron Ferdinand who had Waddesdon built as she was 'short and dumpy' as recorded in photos of the time.  It is reflected in one of the old mirrors that adorn this room.

I had taken my camera with the 35mm 7Artisans lens and able, in the quiet moments, to practice with the manual focus and wide aperture.  Extra of the silver dinner service on the dining table in this particular room - one of the three dining rooms in the building.

Now to set about clearing my studio room ready for a new window to be fitted tomorrow and begin gathering things together for another motorhome trip from Wednesday.
