Cadbury Camp
"I was born by myself but carry the spirit and blood of my father, mother and my ancestors. So I am really never alone. My identity is through that line."
Ziggy Marley
How to escape the bank holiday crowds and enjoy the beautiful May sunshine. Under current conditions, the aftermath of lockdown, a 'spontaneous' day out needed a bit more thought. We'd seen the horrendous traffic on the M5 on our return from our last trip to Clevedon, but undaunted I thought I could get away with a short trip on the motorway again, if it was before mid-day. We made it across the bridge in time, to Tickenham, for a walk onto the Iron Age Fort that is Cadbury Camp - yes, I know, it should be covered in chocolate. After a relatively relaxed uphill hike to the Fort there's a commanding view from the top over the surrounding countryside, across the channel to Flat Holm and Steep Holm and the flat plains below reminiscent of the Somerset Levels further south. Just a few other family groups enjoying picnics and exercise in the sunshine, inside the earthwork was a riot of yellow with a carpet of buttercups.
