Salt shed under the Manhattan Bridge

The salt sheds, scattered throughout the city, are where the Department of Sanitation stores the salt that gets sprinkled on city streets in the winter. Some time ago I posted a beautiful modern-style concrete one (the Spring Street salt shed) located on the west side. This one is on the east side, and in an older style. 

The Manhattan Bridge, though less famous than the Brooklyn Bridge, is also an important feature of the local landscape. At the other (Brooklyn) end, it has given its name to the neighborhood — that is, DUMBO, for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.”
