Lake Hauroko
This lake is in the Fiordland National Park. Well off the beaten track, the deepest lake in NZ at 462metres. Situated south of Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri, deep into the stunning and remote Fiordland.
A truly stunning drive there, initially through a valley with farming then into the massive beech forests towering over the winding road. At the end of the road is a jetty (blip) the end part being underwater and that’s all, except wonderful views and large hungry sandflies.
We were treated to a nice sunrise across from our motel this morning and as we left Riverton the light on the boat harbour was lovely (both as extras).
We travelled west then north, lots of stops along the way, lunch at Tuatapere an old logging area; we are staying in a comfortable motel in Te Anau tonight. Tomorrow we will travel home as we have a funeral to attend on Thursday.
Another wonderful day with plenty of sunshine all day.
