Old Cinema

Our last day in Poynton was spent doing more jobs for my mother in law. Went to the tip this morning, often known as the dump, depending on where you were brought up. It is a very nice tip, semi rural, and the place to go if you want a second hand Zimmer frame judging by the amount lined up. We were gardening mainly and looking out for a Hobby which someone reported seeing last night over the road trying to catch a bat. Did you know that the Latin term for a hobby is Falco Subbuteo which is how the table top football game came to be named? Later we walked up the Main Street for a sample of Cafe Society at the Fire and Ice cafe, finally visiting the churchyard to pay our respects to my father in law, and to Jimmy Murphy, former Assistant Manager of Manchester United and also Manager of Wales. He lived in Poynton.

Almost forgot the photograph. This was Poynton’s first cinema, which closed in 1938 because of competition from a bigger, newer establishment. It became a Catholic Church which it still is today.
