In 1969, The Andromeda Strain became Michael Crichton's sixth published novel and the first one to be published under his own name. A huge international success, a movie adaptation followed in 1971. Crichton quickly became renowned as a master of the techno-thriller genre, as well as traditional S.F. Exactly fifty years later, in 2019, the same year as Covid-19 hit the headlines, Daniel H. Wilson published this sequel. How ironic that a novel about a global pandemic, this one initiated by a crashed Chinese satellite containing a contagion, should appear so synchronously.
