Sarah

This is Sarah, my singing teacher.  Today was my first lesson in over a year.  It's very strange with us separated by a screen.  But it's good to be back working with her.

I met her about 6 years ago when I needed help following reconstructive surgery on my voice box.  The doctors had said it was unlikely I'd be able to sing again - as did a few singing teachers when I approached them for advice.

But Sarah was so positive - "let's give a go."   So we did.

She's a professional musician as well as singing teacher and so understands not only the mechanics of how the human voice works, but also the stresses of performing.

I've not sung for over a year now and the band has been invited to perform at a music festival in July.  I've been in two minds about retiring gracefully, but my ego is too big to quit just yet.  My lesson today was all about making that decision.

She keeps records of all her students' progress and at the end of the session compared my range to what it was a year ago.  I've lost one note off the top - "you could have done it if I'd really pushed you" she said.

So - gig in July it is.
