Columbine

A particularly difficult flower to paint but since it's a favorite of mine I gave it a go.  The flower has such an unusual design and is almost alien looking yet beautiful.  
I can remember my mom growing them in our garden when I was young and I was fascinated by them.  So naturally I have them growing in my garden as well.  
It's a stormy day here today so I'm glad I sketched and painted this from a photo that was taken on a bright sunny day.  We have had some real torrential rain lately although this weekend promises to be sunny and hot.
