Rook
The local rookery has had a very successful breeding year, not least because their near neighbours last year, the tawny owls, have nested elsewhere.
The owlets had a constant supply of young rooks last year. The evidence was all around the base of the nest.
I couldn't sleep last night.* It was too warm, even with the windows wide open. I got up at 1.45am and only fell into a restless sleep sometime later.
The rooks with their newly fledged offspring however, were raring to go at dawn. Raucous cawing right outside the bedroom at 5am :-/
Another beaut of a day which I have spent pottering in the garden. Lucy has been calling back to the ever present rooks while Stan has enjoyed the entire day in the aviary in the sunshine
*Stan has to go to the vet again in the morning.
Fearing the worst but hoping for the best.
