Mug Rug

Santa Ana del Valle is one of several villages close to Oaxaca that is well known for its skilled weavers. I purchased several of these coasters, mug rugs, hot pads, or whatever you would like to call them, and we hung them on the wall so we can admire them every day.

Artisans weave rugs in all sizes, as well as bags and other accessories, using home made looms with mostly hand dyed wool. I really enjoy talking with the weavers who made the items I bought. Many of the families have looms in their houses, and the skill is passed down from generation to generation.
