Slates

Some time ago we started using some old roof slates (from our roof) to form a border around the lawn. But we only had enough to go around a relatively small portion of the lawn. We needed some more...
So today I collected some more from a lady who was selling some on gumtree. When I turned up there were so many more than I had expected. In fact, a whole roof’s worth. Her young daughter reckoned there were ‘twenty hundred’ and I think she might have been right. I took what I needed (probably more than we needed) and it hardly seems to have made a dent in the pile!
Welsh slate is lovely. These tiles must be at least a hundred and fifty years old and they are beautiful. Once they’ve had the dirt knocked off and a bit of a scrub they look great.
