A Day In The Life

Also known as the Fish Hawk because they live exclusively on fish and eat them while alive. They can spot these swimmers up to 100 ft. above water, then dive headfirst towards their prey. Then, at the last minute, they pull up feet first, sometimes fully submerged, to pierce their helpless victim with four black talons. Yikes! Each catch is then positioned forward in the direction of flight • The river was bursting with activity today, both above and below the flowing water. We witnessed numerous Stanleys jumping carefree through the air. Even when unnoticed we heard splashes up and down the river. Eagles soared with herring gulls as four ospreys swooped low, then high, perching in nearby trees • We assumed two parents each with a juvenile teaching the ways of hunting and survival. This pair rested on what appeared to be a tree swing. The juvenile intently observed the adult as he patiently scanned the water for moving shadows. The young one’s eyes never faltered as if he knew he would soon be tested • Happy Weekend to you!
