Bee Orchid

A visit to Trowborough Quarry today. Quarrying of limestone commenced in the 1840’s and ceased in the 1970’s. This was the place where limestone and bitumen were first put together to create tarmacadam. It’s now a nature reserve, but also popular with rock climbers. And young boys on little mountain bikes, today at least.

I have never seen bee orchids before. Small but perfectly formed.
