When the rumours first started in early 2020 we were all assured that no, we were not for sale, it was just a rumour, we were all one big family.
Shortly after that, the sale was agreed.
Having been sold for an astronomical amount of money, it didn't take our new owners very long at all to decide that they wanted to start selling off any parts that weren't shiny.
The shiny parts (believe it or not) are the incinerators which make electricity by burning refuse. In theory it is only non-recyclable “residual” refuse that reaches the burners, but we all know that in practice, a fair amount of perfectly good recyclable resource ends up getting vaporised.
The non-shiny parts for divestment included Collections (the bin men) Recycling (the environmentally responsible sector) and Landfill (the liability). First to go was Electrical Recycling, soon followed by Glass Recycling. A couple of weeks ago it was announced that Biffa (of all people) had agreed to buy the remaining Recycling plus the Bin Men.
Leaving Landfill alone on the naughty step.
Today we have had our first “The Top Brass speak live to the employees and you can ask whatever questions you like” session since we were last lied to early last year when we were assured that we were all one big happy family and of course were weren't for sale. The only difference this time was that for reasons of “new technology” nobody could ask questions live and they all had to be pre-submitted in writing and then selected. Funny that.
The drawing office makes drawings for all the various parts of the business, but most of our work comes from landfill and so that is who's budget we come under. When all our other facilities head off into the Biffa sunset our workload will reduce.
So that means that the drawing office is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with landfill on the naughty step as we are reassured by the top-brass liars that they are looking for the best organisation to run our particular operation.
Nonsense! We've been up for sale since at least last September and a buyer has not been found. I'd have had some respect had they said “We don't want you and neither does anyone else” But they didn't, instead they tried to pretend that they were seeking the best possible home for a poor little orphan kitten. The thing is, you can't just flush landfill down the toilet.
