LD 439. Letting the train take the strain.
That used to be an advertising slogan for British Rail, but for a bit today it was an ironic comment, as I found myself part of a very long queue (starting with half a dozen smaller queues back to back at the rear of the station but ultimately stretching all the way up to Waverley bridge and then down again) as a result of the cancellation of all trains south.
But the LNER staff were very helpful, as were the Network Rail station staff and after about an hour and a half Cathleen and I reached an actual train that got us on our way.
