Rush hour at Glasgow Cross

The Tolbooth at Glasgow Cross is one of these landmarks you rush past. I found myself at rush hour driving round it tonight.
I had my trusty assistant in the car who at age 11 is au fait with all things iPhone.
He put the phone up to the window and this was his picture.
Built in 1625-27, the Tolbooth was developed as a communications hub, with stagecoaches from Edinburgh and London bringing visitors and news.
A reading room provided newspapers. As the city expanded and moved westwards, the Tolbooth was abandoned and eventually demolished, leaving the steeple as the last tower standing.
This loss of an important building was the result of the work of The City Improvement Trust which had the unenviable task of ridding the city of its slums.
All a far cry from Blips & iPhones...
