Red-legged Partridge
For months now, travelling this route twice a week, I usually see a pair of red-legged partridges, Alectoris rufa. The gamekeeper breeds these and pheasants for shooting parties.
Tonight I took the time to stop and do my own shooting. They split up and went either side of the road. I could photograph this one with no more disturbance than winding down my window. All the time this one was calling out to the other one.
It's many, many years since I've seen a Common (Grey) Partridge.
