It might look like a neglected field . . .

. . .  but it is lapwing habitat.  This is on the margin of the Forest of Bowland, which is one place we have to go to from the Lake District to see lapwings, curlews, oystercatchers and snipe.

There is plenty of grotty marginal land nearer home but for some reason it just lacks biodiversity.
