Project 365 day 161: iris abstract
These irises in my neighbour's garden are a wonderful colour, and the low evening sun brought out their warmth and created strong contrasts of light and shadow. I'd like to think this is inspired by Georgia O'Keefe's huge canvases looking into the hearts of flowers and abstracting their shapes and colours. I did play a bit with colour changes for today's Abstract Thursday filter theme, but found nothing which could equal their own, beautiful sunlit colour.
The only thing of note in a routine day was the annular eclipse this morning. Light cloud cover masked much of the sun's brightness, but the curved bite obscured by the moon's shadow was clearly visible from outside the back door. P and I took turns to peer through the glasses and remembered the 1999 eclipse, which we viewed at totality from a stopping place beside a French motorway when a break in the morning's dense clouds unexpectedly provided a brief but clear view at the key moments. We have so many wonderful memories.
