A great day out
Took a day off work and in the company of Margaret and Rachel paid a visit to Wicklow Gaol. We had a guided tour and it would be difficult to describe accurately what we saw.
If you managed to get out alive it was a miracle. In the 1700s justice did not serve the ordinary man, woman or child. The conditions, disease, torture are well documented and the place (which is supposed to be haunted) has a chilly and foreboding atmosphere. It gives however a good account of events at the time.

We had a good lunch in the Jailer’s Rest and then walked around Wicklow Town.
There is a monument to Robert Halpin in the town centre and his life story is worth reading, here ....

See some extras, but as they are taken in dark dungeons, quality not so good
