A great afternoon for kayaking!
Saturday
It was going to be a very hot sunny day, so it seemed a great opportunity for a kayak. There’s still no word from the car dealer about a delivery date for the roof bars for our new car, on which we can mount a rack designed for carrying kayaks. However, having the kayaks and not being able to use them now that summer is here, was making Roger frustrated! So he had been searching online, and had come across these inflatable roof bars (see extra). He had read various reviews and watched a couple of videos, and decided it was worth investing in them. We weren’t convinced about taking two on the top, so we put one on top and the other inside, as we had done once before. We decided to go to Stonelick Lake, a state park, just about 38 minutes away. It was one of the first out of town places we went to when we first came to the States, decades ago, yet for some reason have never gone back. It’s not a very large lake, compared to say East Fork, or Caesar Creek, and only allows small electric motors, so it is quiet, and clearly popular for kayaking. The inflatable rack worked fine, and we spent a wonderful 2 hours or so out on the water, well dosed with sunscreen. We paddled most of the length of the lake, down to the dam first, then back, and on past the beach, and continued as far as the campground, which looks to be in a nice spot.
Do check out yesterday’s blip, A soggy afternoon at The Wilds, posted belatedly this evening.
