Today's the day ......................... for a choral celebration
The Mary Wakefield Music Festival is on just now in Kendal. It lasts for about ten days and during that time there are all sorts of musical competitions and several big concerts. The first one was in 1885 - so it has been part of Kendal life for a very long time.
Tonight it was the Choral Celebration Evening. There were seven choirs from the local area taking part - including mine. It used to be a proper competition when the choirs would compete against each other and one of them would be the winner on the night. But it seems you can't do that any more because presumably they thought that it would be demoralising for the choirs that didn't win. So now we all still sing - but no marks are given and it's called a Celebration instead of a Competition. It's a sign of the times - and a bit of a shame I think.
This is Kay - one of our best sopranos - wearing her pink corsagey thing that marks her out as a member of Kendal Choral ..........................
