Inside the Islands
I was aware the wind was going to get up overnight, and woke at 4am to the boat shifting about. Then awake again at 5am, and 6am. By 7am there was another bigger gust and I decided to get up. A mile offshore I could see the white capped waves surging along. By 8am there was a band of blue sky approaching from the west so I thought that would be as good a time as any to cast off - it would certainly feel a lot less oppressive, and maybe there would be a short period where the squalls would drop a bit. Dinghy lashed down, off I headed. The brave Jimbo! As soon as I got to the headland I got a sliver of headsail up, engine off and down I coasted to Ardfern, inside the islands. Plain sailing.
Onto the fuel jetty to top up and fill the water tank and have a chat with Cap’n Bob, before getting back to the mooring and heading down that road.
Home by 5pm. And I even caught the opening of the Euros! Not the whole game, but for the record, Italy thrashed Turkey 3-0. They can play a bit, those Azzurri.
