Rocky Mountain Moments

The Awning

I wish I would have stayed up when I got up to use the bathroom at 6:30.  By 8 when I finally got up it was already HOT outside.  We opened the awning yesterday to check it out and wash the mildew that had formed from moisture that snuck in.  We noticed that there were tiny holes in it  close to the camper where the top of the awning was in the sun when it was rolled up.  We had the camper covered but the cover ripped in a windstorm and was no longer protecting it from the elements.  Then we let it dry thoroughly and retracted it last night.

This morning we were out with white Gorilla tape and a ladder.  I climbed and patched while PD held the ladder.  He had to move it for me every few feet.  It took about an hour.  At least we were in the shade of the awning but I was drenched by the time we finished.  Good thing our humidity is in the single digits or I may not have survived!!  Anyway, it's done and I am grateful that it seems to be holding when we rolled it in and out a few times.  I'm also grateful that I found white tape (I've only seen Gorilla tape in black in the past) so my repair job is hardly noticeable. :-)

The not so good news is that the batteries didn't hold a charge overnight so we'll need to get new ones.  Fortunately, our nephew (the tire nephew's dad) works at a diesel repair shop and will be able to get the batteries for us at a good price.  The other not so good news is that our generator keeps stalling.  At least it starts, though, so that should be an easy fix....I hope.  PD just went out to get a spark plug and a new fuel filter - the first 2 things on the troubleshooting list.

I'm blipping early because I needed a break because I got overheated.  I'm drinking lots of water and resting now.  I'll be working inside the rest of the day gathering things that need to go out to the camper.  Tomorrow I will get up at 6:30 and get to work bringing things out and stowing them away.  We really don't mind the prep work, it's the heat that is so miserable!  We're supposed to hit 100F today.  Can't wait to get to the mountains where it's about 20 degrees (F) cooler!!

Thank you to everyone for all your visits and stars and hearts.  I really appreciate all of them!  If you missed my dragonfly yesterday, you can see it here. xx
