Durness

We had planned to visit Cape Wrath yesterday but it turns out you can only really go via a tour as it is now taken over by the military and was in live use yesterday. We went instead to Durness the most north westerly village in th UK mainland, just 18 kilometres along from Cape Wrath. The beach here is outstanding, long, white and curved, there is a huge old fort-like Jacobean farmhouse and the remains of a church from the same era. The weather was appalling, l had to grasp hold of a railing in the church yard to stay upright at one stage. We had the central heating on when we got back to homebase.
Interestingly Beatle John Lennon's aunt who bought him up in Liverpool is buried in the churchyard here.
Being so far north we are in a twilight world at night, l note that the sun sets at 10:26pm tonight but it is still light right through.
Temperature wise a high of 13 here - 29 in London.
