Its the Way It Is

Eastbourne 7

Around this time of year seven of us go to Eastbourne for the grass court tennis competition. The big players compete on grass as a warm up to Wimbledon to attune to the bounce and rhythm of grass after playing on clay at Roland Garros.

We have a great time - watch tennis, eat lovely food, swim and attend the bandstand concerts. All in all an excellent 5 days. Fly from Dublin to Gatwick and hop on the train for Eastbourne. But Covid prevented that last year and sadly also this year. So this evening we are-meeting up but not as a whole group. This is not allowed. I am hosting 2 of them and 2 other groups (of 2 each) are gathering also. They live within walking distance and we will zoom and talk about past year’s visit. One lady has kept a diary of her 9 visits and we will remember the absolute craic we have had.

Last year I had finally managed to reserve the best room for myself in a great little place but never got to experience it. ..have a look at it.

Maybe next year sigh

So although a bit breezy here in Dublin, the table is being set. On da menu Hunter’s Chicken, New Wexford spuds and quirky orange glazed carrots. Chocolatey thing fordessert and a glass of tractor wine.

So although I couldn’t get away from work early, I am reasonably well organised. It’s breezy but very pleasant in my back garden and Vince is slicking back his hair ‘cos he knows he is gonna get lots of attention.
