A Whiter Shade of Pale

Thought I’d better try and grab a picture of the Peonies, before the rain which is forecast for later this week gives them a battering. Not all of them are fully out though, so perhaps if the rain wrecks the current blooms, there will be more to take their place.
After the frenetic activity of the last couple of days, it was a much quieter day today. Actually had the luxury of a bit of a lie in this morning, and physical activity was confined to a PT session just before lunch.
Even managed to tackle some outstanding paperwork (i.e. pay a couple of bills) this afternoon as well as arranging for Autoglass to come and repair the large stone chip I got in the windscreen, coming back up the M6 on Saturday. Followed the link from my insurers website and it was very straightforward to arrange. I just had to send a couple of photos of the damage, as a follow up, and they have confirmed it should be repairable. I’ll only have to fork out a tenner, and NCD is unaffected. Considerably less than the £700+ a new windscreen would cost!
The most widely anticipated news of the day was the announcement of a four week delay to the final relaxation of restrictions. I really don’t see what some people are getting so worked up about. Back in February, it was made clear that 21st June was the very earliest restrictions could go. If there was a new variant, then there might have to be a delay. And that is exactly what has happened. It’s all very well the hospitality industry saying they’ll all go under if the restrictions weren’t relaxed, but I doubt it would have been good for business if they had to keep shutting down due to Covid outbreaks. And a fourth lockdown would definitely be the final nail in the coffin.
I think the decision - albeit unpopular in some circles - is the right one. Surely better to open up a month late in (comparative) safety, rather than recklessly abandon all measures now and then wonder why hospitalisations and deaths are shooting up. And I’m sure that the business support schemes which were due to run out at the end of June, could also be given a four week extension.
