Cockatoo Island

We had a Photogroup excursion to Cockatoo Island today. The largest island in Sydney Harbour, it was originally a penal colony and later a shipyard.
Now (very friendly) volunteers work on restoring the site including the old machines and steam driven cranes.
It is also used on occasions for artistic exhibitions and quite a few movies have been filmed there.

It must be one of the most underrated attractions in Sydney. Access is by the commuter ferry, no charge to wander around and there is even very reasonably priced accommodation ranging from “glamping” to the historic buildings.

Our day was topped off by a visit to the Ensemble Theatre to see “A Woman in Black”, a rather scary show superbly acted.
