Grand Tour of England Day 9

After an amazing sunset last night we woke to a gorgeous sunny, warm day. We’ve had such a fabulous day.

Our friend Jo, who we met in Iran, lives nearby in Penzance. She drove over this morning around 10 to join us for a coastal walk to Lands End. We headed down the cliff from the van and found a path leading steeply to join the SW Coastal Path. We had a few rocky bits to negotiate to reach the first Cove. We then walked across the sand and back to the rocky, uneven path to reach Sennen Cove, the further one in the picture. (The blip is Mr C and Jo returning to the van). Sennen Cove was easily accessible by car so was busier than the first one. Lots of surfers were out. After Sennen it was an easier walk up and down to reach Lands End. We had our picnic looking at the view. The Lands End area has been bought by a Chinese businessman or Russian oligarch, Jo wasn’t sure, but it is a tacky theme park looking place. People were queuing up to part with £12 to have their photo taken at the sign.

We headed back the same way, stopping off for delicious ice creams, £4.50 each. Even more surfers were out in both bays on the way back. We felt quite weary getting back up the cliff to our van. Almost 22,000 steps. My ankle is complaining a bit now but I’m sure a hot shower and glass of wine will sort that out. It’s been a wonderful day.

I’m sorry I’m not getting the journals read - it’s been quite busy!
