Great Beginnings

Eddy Merckx Titanium AX

Finally out for the first real ride of the year and my favorite "little" climb by the seaside.  My 'old' road bike has been to see the bike doctor and totally revamped and modernized.  When I moved to Italy way back (many moons and leap years ago), I went to all the local bike shops to try the road bikes.  I was a mountain bike fanatic, but wanted something to remember my overseas work project.  Colnago was on the top of my list, which was my learned favorite from working in a bike shop during college.  So much craftsmanship and detail in their lugged steel frames and straight forks.  Only I fell in love with this bike at Pete's Bike Shop in Flemington, New Jersey...  I tried lots of bikes during my first months, but none measured up to this one.  So, I made a call to Pete and then picked it up on my first trip home to the states.  Now it is worthy to hold it's head high with any modern contenders.  Another piece of the story... for a senior year group project, we evaluated different bicycle frame materials, steel, aluminum, titanium and the new comer carbon fiber.  Per our criteria, the titanium came up on top.  Compliant, reactive, lightweight, durable and corrosion resistant...

More to follow.
