Farewell old friend.
This magnificent silvertop ash tree (eucalyptus sieberi) has stood here for many years - long before there were houses in the area. We've been worried about its safety for some time now as it is close to our house and has many large and very heavy overhanging limbs.
With new neighbours soon to build on the block next door it was time for a reassessment and the arborists came today. Unfortunately its safety can no longer be guaranteed and the only sensible thing to do is to take it out.
Amongst other issues is the fact that it is a multi-trunk tree with three large trunks joined close to the ground (see extra). All up about 6m in circumference and liable to split at any time as the growing trunks force against each other.
It's a massive job to remove it, involving a crane and dismembering the limbs piece by piece from the top down, but sadly must be done. Could make for a good blip in a couple of weeks time!
