Maiden of Karelia
This memorial touched me so deeply four years ago that I began to photograph the statues and memorials raised by the people Karelia who had to be evactuated to the mainland Finland in 1944. My father was one them.
On the plinth are the words: Of Sorrows Songs Are Written.
In the extra you see the work in its entirety. It was sculpted by Heikki Varja in 1965. You can find it in Mäntsälä.
