Deer attack.

This year's planting of small-leaved lime and alder were doing well on our previous check, then 72 hours later almost every one of the limes and some of the alder had been chewed off, even though they were in 4ft (1.2m) tall tube guards.  Each tree had taken an hour to plant and we even dragged drums of water to them in the Spring dry spell.  This seems to confirm we have fallow deer in the wood and need to use 5ft (1.5m) guards*.  Grrr!

* Unless of course we have red deer!!
