Bright sails

Holiday Day 8

Another grey morning and another paddle, this time at the south end of Coniston Water. It's generally quieter at this end but there is a water sports centre and there were groups of kids sailing and kayaking.
Before the railway was built the slate from the quarries was transported by boat to what now looks a very small port. (I don't know how it got anywahere from there!). The Amazons in "Swallows and Amazons" also lived down this part.
It brightened up a bit later and I went for a run from the campsite over some common land and through fields and woods. It ended up further than I entended as the map I had with me only showed one path at a place where there were 2 - and I took the wrong one!
The Gondola was sailing again today so the problem can't have been serious.
