The Rowan Tree

The Rowan Tree, currently in full bloom, is one of the best loved songs of Carolina Oliphant, Lady Nairne. During her life time (1766 - 1845) the true identity of the writer of such well loved songs as The Rowan Tree, The Auld Hoose, Bonnie Charlie's noo Awa and Land o' the Leel, The White Rose of June was not known even to her husband. Today she is considered to be Scotland's foremost songstress. Born into a family of staunch Jacobites many of Lady Nairne's songs reflect her family's allegience.
