Quoth the raven...
Our first visit to Charlottesville and the campus of the University of Virginia. Daughter I. didn’t have a campus tour before she applied to UVa, so we drove down today and found the music building, science buildings, dormitory area, and of course Thomas Jefferson’s “academical village” and rotunda and the old living quarters.
One of the old rooms, number 13, was once home to Edgar Allan Poe. Here’s a shot of I. looking in through the glass door...can you see the raven on the desk?
According to the Raven Society, legend has it that Poe (whose stepfather didn't allow him to stay longer than a year at the university) scratched the following into his windowpane: "O thou timid one, let not thy form rest in slumber within these unhallowed walls, for herein lies the ghost of an awful crime." Creepy, huh?
