Waterville day 2: Church Island
Well today I managed to find an entire holy island! What a huge treat and privilege to be taken out to tiny Church Island in the middle of Lough Currane by Tom. It turned out that Tom actually owned the island and knew all about it - would you like to join us and tell us all about it I boldly asked. He did and it was fantastic. Two old churches, one 6C and one 12C, tons of cross slabs and the possible burial place of the founder, St Finian. There were also sheep keeping the grass down, a lot of grey lag geese poo (they like it here) and some spectacular views.
Later we roamed into the interior of wildest Kerry and found a remarkable shrine in the middle of nowhere and the returned to the Ironman's House and eventually found St Gobnait's Well - I was thrilled but you'll have to wait for the blog for that!
