Life in Sunny Dubai

New Friends

(20/6/21)

Saturday morning, and we cancelled OaSis and I did the ironing instead! (Yawn).

We had arranged to meet up with our outgoing SA officers - Gordon and Susan, so we got to the Sol Sky Bar for it. It was clearly way too hot to be outside, and the venue has not invested in outdoor aircons, so we changed venues to Skafos downstairs. Our meeting of four expanded to five, then six and finally ended with ten of us!

It was great to finally meet them in person. It does make a big difference. We chatted easily and even got a picture with the "super" bowl. We then went back to the Sky Bar to show everyone the view. They loved it!

We said our "goodbyes" and then the Daly's and G and me walked to the abra station to cross the Creek to our dinner venue. The limit of three in a car is still in place so it's great that Vivaldi at the Sheraton was so close. It was very warm and humid and uncomfortable doing the walk, but worth it when we got to the restaurant. The food, company and conversation were great, but the service... I don't know what is happening in Dubai - even five-star hotels can't be bothered get it right!

For a change, we didn't have to run to catch the last abra back. We did walk through Al Seef to get to a souvenir shop, hoping they would have the item that G&S had in mind to take back as a gift. They didn't. Our guests got to experience the area their hotel is based in and they loved it. They were excellent, not complaining about the weather at all!

Home late and happy, but too drained (humidity - ugh!) and too tired to even think of downloading my pictures. It was so humid, the camera lens/sensor kept fogging up going in and out of air-conditioned rooms.
