Sculpture at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts
On the left is a The Doryphoros 120-50BC sculpted by Greek sculptor Polykleitos. Doryphoros (Spear Bearer) represents an idealized , youthful male athlete with a perfectly proportioned body. His missing arm used to hold a spear.
Top right is Ganymede and the Eagle 1817-29 by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Zeus often assumed disguises while conducting his many love affairs. To Ganymede, son of the king of Troy, he appeared as an eagle and carried the boy off to Mount Olympus to be his cupbearer.
The sculpture on the bottom right I failed to obtain information on, I'm sorry. If anyone recognizes it please enlighten me :)
My kids and I try to visit this beautiful museum just outside of Downtown
Minneapolis at least twice a year, but it had been two years since our last visit. Today was beautiful outside, after a heavy snowfall, the strong March sun melted it all away and you could walk outside without a jacket!
