The Black Horse Inn
After all yesterday's excitement of the big game we decided we needed a bit of a de-stress today so we headed out to the Black Horse Inn at Thurnham for a quick drink in pleasantly peaceful surroundings.
The pub resides on the Pilgrims Way in the tiny hamlet of Thurnham in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It feels like it is in the middle of nowhere but is actually only just over 2 miles away from the nearest town of Maidstone.
It sits on high ground with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and once inside you almost feel you have stepped back in time. It dates from the 18th Century and the ceilings are adorned with hops, the wooden floors slope in different directions in some places and there are copious amounts of nooks and crannies. It also still has it's own red telephone box.
We were some of the first few people in the door and the only ones in the bar area so it felt like we had the pub to ourselves. The staff were so welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed a quiet pint with a packet of crisps having a debrief about yesterday's game. Lovely!
