Peruvian weaving
For a change, I didn't get it in Peru, I think it was a wedding present from a good friend. I believe it is an Ayacucho weaving. We passed through Ayacucho in 1987, which was then a town associated with Maoist guerrillas called Sendero Luminoso. (The Shining Path.) Our bus was delayed overnight and we had to camp down on the grimy floor of the bus office, close to a smelly leaky toilet. We did hear the rat-at-tat-tat of semi-automatic gunfire. It was a miserable sleepless night, especially as a whole bus load of other passengers were there too. In the morning the bus arrived and when it was our turn to board, the driver said it was 'Completo '(Full) My friend Peter then swore at the guy with such venom, that he caved in and let us on. Even then we had to stand in this rickety bus, on bumpy roads for hours. The saving grace was arriving somewhere with a decent hotel with comfy beds. And, no I would not want to do it again.
