Busman’s holiday

The weather today has been awful, but we’ve still had a great time.

We left Chelmsford this morning and headed to Ipswich to visit another acquaintance of Mr A’s; a lovely guy called Tony.

I have mentioned previously that Mr A is a bus geek fanatic, particularly regarding the old Accrington Corporation Transport buses.
He has a huge collection of memorabilia and even set up a group on Facebook, which is how he came to know Tony.

The bus in the photo was purchased originally in 1929 by Accrington Corporation, just a year after they first began operating.

It was discovered again in the 80’s by Tony, being used as a cocktail bar in a nightclub in Stoke (called Strikes if anyone from that area/era remembers it).

He bought it and restored it to its former glory, in the original livery colours and now operates it for day trips, weddings and events as part of his coach business.

It’s been out of service during the pandemic, but this has given Tony time to revamp the engine. He said it should be good to go by the end of the week.

He was a lovely guy and so enthusiastic about the bus (as was Mr A!).

From there, we drove to Lowestoft to visit Ness Point; the most easterly part of mainland Britain. It was sooooo cold and blowing a gale, we didn’t hang about for long!

Tonight we are staying in Great Yarmouth; we will explore more of that tomorrow when the weather is forecast to be much nicer than today :-)
