Troutbeck and its Tongue

A splendid day on the fells. Four Wainwrights bagged and the 1000th mile of the year covered. It remained mostly dry with just a little light drizzle for a while while on Ill Bell. Low cloud obscured the view at times

With friends Adam and Jane and their border collie/poodle cross dog Brodie we walked up one side of the Kentmere Horseshoe over Yoke, Ill Bell and Froswick before descending into Troutbeck to bag Troutbeck Tongue and complete the trip back to Church Bridge along High Street Roman road.

Nearly 11 miles and over 3000 feet of ascent put us through our paces as we’ve not done any serious mountain walking since February 2020. Adam and Jane on the other hand live in Keswick and have been up and down the hills throughout.

Most bits of the body stood up to the demands, my right knee feels a little sore which is not surprising as I’ve battled to get it into shape ever since Christmas.

We ended the walk with a pint at the Kirkstone Inn before going our separate ways. All being well we’ll see them again on Saturday for a long awaited attempt on Blencathra.
