Picnic time at the bridge over the Allt na Moine Baine with Schiehallion in the distance to the south. Until General Wade built a military road in 1728-30 over Drumochter to suppress the Jacobites this had been the main route to the north of Scotland. Now what became known as the "summer road to Ruthven Baracks" is used only by keen walkers. Today the only sounds were not of marching soldiers, but of the wind and water and moorland birds and a distant cuckoo.
