Luciola italicus

An Italian firefly rescued from the pool.

The hay fever reached its hiatus in the still oppressive heat. Even the pool lost its allure as I sniffed and rasped my way through the day. The season brings these days when one teeters on the edge of what feels like an asthmatic abyss, when the thing enters the body’s core and growling disappears from sight.

Which was a shame as we had friends over. Still we made a pretty decent time of it and watched the fireflies emerge into the blissfully cooling evening.
