There is a light that never goes out

AngelsShare knows where I've been. This old house has featured many times in my blips, it has a strong gravitational pull and is full of luscious colours and warm vibes. Left to do its own things for as long as I can remember it has suddenly had all the undergrowth cleared from around it and I have taken a few photos before things happen. The pink and blue features in so many of the older houses, there must gave been a job lot in West Cork, in fact I am usually amazed at the zinging colours to be found within.
What caught my eye today was the perpetual light, still there although the other features of this tableau have gone. The light, which never went out, would have illuminated the picture of the Sacred Heart which was displayed above it. The Sacred Heart depicts Jesus' sacred humanity - that's putting it very simply! I think the little shelf next to it would have held a small shrine holding statues and personal religious objects important to the family. Most families would have had something like this in their homes and showed the household had been consecrated to the Sacred Heart. Originally the lamp would have been oil fuelled, later becoming electric in the 1950s or later. Often these are the last things left in a derelict house, see extra for one, still glowing, with the Sacred Heart above. Whatever your thoughts on this, to me it felt otherworldy and poignant, confusing and fascinating - an intimate glimpse of another belief and way of life, fast vanishing.
