Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
Thursday was a relaxed day. Took the "Purple Train" (cue a Prince sing-a-long) out to Arashiyama to visit the Tenry?-ji Temple, a Rinzai school, one of the two main sects of Zen Buddhism in Japan.
Very cool seeing a real and authentic Japanese Zen garden; plus walking through Arashiyama's famous bamboo groves was relaxing and enjoyable.
Thursday afternoon was onwards to Tokyo on the bullet train. We took in the sights as we zipped by at high-speed (Shinkansen speed is 240-300 kmph), watched a film "(500) Days of Summer"; and had a little nap.
Quite a contrast going from the Zen garden to the bright lights and countless skyscrapers of this crazy city.
