Simplicity

I was headed around Rocks Road in Nelson this morning and couldn't resist stopping for this shot. The sea and the scene were so peaceful. For greater peace and serenity click here.

I was in Nelson for an appointment with a specialist. Seeing I was there I popped into the testing station for a warrant. For the benefit of non-kiwis, all cars have to have a 6 monthly warrant check to ensure they are road safe. The car failed on a bald tyre so I headed into town around the port to track one down. The first 3 places I went to couldn't help me but the 4th could. I got the tyre replaced and was still at the hospital in time for my appointment.

When I'd finished there I headed into town to do a couple of quick jobs then back out to the testing station to show them the new tyre and pick up my warrant. No! The tyre place had sold me the wrong tyre, which was illegal on my car. Grrrr.

Not happy! Trekked back into town, had a rant at the tyre people and they finally tracked down the right tyre and fitted it on the car. Then they thought I should pay more as the new one had cost them more. Now that was silly of them - what with the time and travel they had cost me with their error.

Didn't take them long to see the error of their ways and agree with me that it was their fault and therefore their cost! The irony was that if they'd just told me they didn't have the right tyre in the first place I'd have gone elsewhere and happily paid whatever was necessary to get the job done.

The humour for the day (for me) was that the young man who fitted the tyre in the first place was a lad I taught a few years back. He is not the one who selected the tyre - he just did as he was told and put it on. While I was taking a strip off the manager young C stood behind him grinning at me the whole time. HE knew that I wasn't really at all scary - but his boss didn't know that!
