Peacock overload!
Well, we had a great time at the Ruthin Castle Hotel, and would definitely recommend it. Especially if you don’t mind constant screeching warblers in every public area. I recommend you don’t have the Sunday roast… but the other meals may well be quite good. The staff are friendly and efficient, especially the breakfast ones. The castle itself is being renovated, gradually, but it’s a huge place and it’ll take years. We had a great room, big fluffy white towels, changed each day, which we hadn’t expected. There is a spa and woodland hot tubs, and a gym too.
We really enjoyed the outdoor areas, morning and evening, because we had such good weather! The peacocks, five of them, were always hanging about, and liked to stand right on the top of the castle battlements and leap off into the nearby trees (when you weren’t looking). The peahens were less sociable and not to be seen, possibly nesting. The manager said they had lots of wee chicks last year, but none survived - mainly predated by SEAGULLS! I hate SEAGULLS even more now!!
We made a stop in Mold, a nearby village, because we knew it was market day. We wanted to pick up something edible, made in Wales, to take back for Derek, our wonderful dog sitter. We got some Bara Brith, a Welsh tea bread.
An easy journey back home, motorway for most of the time. Archie had been out for two big walks during the day (we had many many photos and videos) and he was quite excited to see us. Good to be home…
Lots of peacocks today, because they were spectacular! Check out the extras.
