Little fatties
They look more like penguins than plant parts, but they are really the pods/follicles of a Hakea that's very common up here (Hakea dactyloides). When they open after fire - or being put in a hot oven! - they reveal 2 shiny, winged seeds. Many pods of other species are much wartier and knobbly - these are smooth, rather slick characters in comparison!
